Fern M. Tennant

Fern M. Tennant, 90, of Amity, passed away peacefully November 15, 2023 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born January 22, 1933, in Amity, the daughter of the late Albert O. and Leanna Gray Mankey. A 1951 graduate of Trinity High School, she worked as a medical assistant in Dr. Bayer’s office until her retirement. Fern was a member of the Amity Methodist Church, where she was the head of Operation Christmas Child. She was also a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants. She loved to bake, especially sugar cookies and Christmas cookies. She was always trying to feed everyone. She loved her family and had them all over on New Year’s every year. On August 18, 1951, Fern married Donald F. Tennant, Sr., who passed away January 19, 2021. Surviving is her daughter, Diane T. Huffman and her husband Joseph A. Huffman, Jr., of Amity; her son, Donald F. Tennant, Jr. and his wife Brenda B. Tennant, of Amity; grandchildren, Melissa Scouvart (Mike), of Venetia, Kristen Venturino (Rob), of Washington, Jason Tennant (Leslie), of Canonsburg, Jill Dennick (Derek), of Canonsburg, and Jody Harrison (Jim), of Eighty Four; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Jack, Matthew, Noah, Hannah, Sammy, Kendell, and Bridget; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Tiny. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice with a special thank you to Brooke, Lacey, Madison, Justin, and Jessica for their kind care of Fern. In addition to her parents and husband, Fern was preceded in death by her siblings, Dora Hart, William Mankey, Anna Tennant, and Albert Mankey, Jr. Family and friends will be received Monday, November 20, 2023, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA. The service will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10 am, with Pastor Laura Saffell and Pastor Linda Mankey officiating. Interment will follow in Amity Methodist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Fern’s name to Amity Methodist Church, 635 Amity Ridge Rd, Amity, PA 15311.
