Fern Belle Goodworth

Fern Belle Omachel Goodworth, 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Concordia Hospice of Washington after an extended illness. Fern is the beloved wife of Douglas Goodworth, dear sister of Diane (John) Sproull and Edward (Jan Dillon) Omachel and sister-in-law Kathleen (Goodworth) Rose. She is the loving aunt to Lisa, Roberta, Brian, Bradley, and Brandon and also survived by 9 great-nieces and great-nephews. Fern was predeceased by her parents: Alex and Fern E. Omachel, her sister, Denise Omachel and nephew Thomas Omachel. Fern was born November 30, 1952, in Latrobe. She graduated from Latrobe High School and earned a B.A from Lock Haven State College. Fern and Doug were married in June 1979 and moved to New Jersey shortly thereafter. Fern worked as a Social Worker for Maple Shade Nursing Home and Cherry Hill Hospital while living there. They moved back to western Pennsylvania 10 years later, living in Ruffsdale and Avella. Fern enjoyed cross-stitching, making many beautiful, framed pieces, reading and puzzles. She also loved to garden and could make anything grow. She had a great sense of humor and always had a positive attitude. Friends and family will be received Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., Washington, with Rev. Dr. L. Stephen Smith, Jr. officiating.
