Eugene Ernest “Ernie” Lyle, 88, passed away on June 12, 2023, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care. He was born on October 14, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late Eugene Richard and Clara May Lyle. He was a 1953 graduate of Trinity High School. On June 12, 1955, he married the love of his life, Elsie May Hull, of Greene County, who died on December 23, 2020. Mr. Lyle was employed by the Observer Publishing Company for thirty-nine years. Eugene served in the Pennsylvania National Guard, Company H, 110th Infantry, at the Washington Armory. Ernie was a member of Friendship Community Church, where he served as an Elder, sang in the choir, and played his beloved violin. He was also a member of the Back Porch Gospel Group, in which he played several additional instruments. For many years, he was an avid model airplane builder and flyer, and held a private pilot’s license for full scale aircraft. Ernie enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating and roller skating. Surviving are two sons, Gene (Amalia Ackerson) Lyle, of Honesdale and Donald M. (Susan Pring) Lyle, of Warren; a sister, Betty Worden, of Sun Tan Valley, AZ; daughter-in-law, Jackie (Eggum) Lyle, of Smithfield, VA; five grandchildren, Brad Rudolph, Sarah (Jeremiah) Padilla, Mary (Shaine) Lepley, Justin (Kaitlyn) Lyle, and Josalyn Lyle Filer; a great grandchild, David; as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his wife, Elsie, are a daughter, Lila Sue Lyle; a son, David Arthur Lyle; and a grandson, David Franklin Lyle. Gene and Don most sincerely appreciate and thank everyone at Southmont for their accommodation, kindness, and excellent care of their dad during his stay there. Friends and family are welcome on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A graveside service will follow at 11:45 p.m. in Washington Cemetery. A memorial luncheon will be held following the service in Friendship Community Church, 1090 Weirich Ave., Washington.
