Ethel Barlow Day, 99, of Fresno, California, passed away April 12, 2024, in Oakwood Gardens Care Center. She was born March 2, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of the late Samuel and Eliza Storey Barlow. On March 11, 1951, she was united in marriage with Thomas Day, who passed away in 1993. Ethel and her husband were very active members of the Order of The Eastern Star, holding many offices at both the Chapter and State levels, forming many lasting friendships. She is the last of her immediate family. Preceded in death by sisters Mary Barlow, Eliza Barlow (in infancy) and Jeanne Reedy, and brothers Samuel (Merle), Edward (Anthus), James (Clara Lee), Richard (Helen), John “Jack” (Lois) and George (Charlene). Ethel and her twin brother, John William, were the first to be born in the U.S. after the family moved from Sheffield, England. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Washington Cemetery. Everyone is asked to please meet at 1:15 in William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, to proceed to the cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Gardens for their years of care of Ethel. A special thank you to Vince Frascona, who was a special friend and neighbor to Ethel.
