Esther R. Georgopoulos, 87, of Washington, died on October 8, 2021, in McMurray Hills Manor, McMurray. She was born on January 30, 1934, in Triadelphia, WV. Mrs. Georgopoulos was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. Drop Esther into a room full of strangers, and in an hour, she would have five new friends on her Christmas card list. Esther grew up in coal country, Triadelphia, WV, where she, like everyone, worked hard. She was a good student, but circumstances prevented her from attending college. On November 13, 1955, she married George Georgopoulos, and like most wives, completely devoted herself to her family. She raised a son and daughter, still finding time for creative outlets as a Brownie leader, and a member of the crew at the local community theater. Esther also created beautiful beaded pins and Christmas ornaments. Mrs. Georgopoulos cultivated friendships that lasted years, in a variety of clubs and activities. Mall-walking was important, and when she had health challenges, she made new friends in hospitals and doctor’s offices. Esther leaves behind a son, Nickolas G. “Nick” Georgopolous, of Florida; a daughter, Mary Paula (Jeffrey) Wheeler, of Upper St. Clair; a granddaughter, Christina Lee (James M.) Perry, of Canonsburg; a brother, Michael “Mike” Rozakis, of Warren, OH; a brother-in-law, Gregory (the late Flossie) Missos; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, friends and fur grandpups. She will also be missed by her extended family, as family of family is family. Esther, or as James’ family called her, “Yia Yia, went to join her husband, George, who died on August 23, 2008; her brother and sister-in-law, George and Christina Rozakis; her sister, and brother-in-law, Viola and Tom Lymbaras; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and George Monolakis; a niece, Mary (nee missos); and too many friends to mention. Friends and family will be received on Monday, October 11, 2021, from 2 until 4 p.m., and 6 until 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 W. McMurray Rd., Canonsburg, with Father John Chakos officiating. All planning to attend the services are asked to please meet at the church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. If you wish to remember her, call a friend you lost touch with, or drop them a note, and always remember to treasure the time spent with those you love.
