Eric Anthony Burdett, 36, of Washington, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 27, 1988, in Lancaster, a son of William P. “Bill” and Brenda S. Serrao Burdett. Eric was a Boy Scout in Troop 1017, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from McGuffey High School in 2007, where he was a member of the football team. He then attended Slippery Rock University, graduating with a degree in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Marine Biology. He then obtained a master’s degree in Marine Biology from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. In 2024, he obtained a second master’s degree from West Virginia University in GIS, Geographical Information Systems. Eric’s research involved the shrimp population in the Gulf of Mexico due to the BP Horizon catastrophe. He worked as a chemist in pharmaceuticals/analytics. He was a Christian and attended Avery United Methodist Church, where he participated as a liturgist and enjoyed cooking for their spaghetti and pancake dinners. Eric loved the beach, hunting, fishing, reading, putting together puzzles and Legos, and he enjoyed watching Star Wars and Harry Potter. He was also a huge fan of Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Most and foremost, he loved to spend time with his family and friends. He is survived by his mom, Brenda; his dad, Bill; loving sister, Sarah; grandparents Fred and Louise Burdett; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Eric was predeceased by his grandparents, Anthony and Nancy Serrao, and his aunt, Kathy Burdett. A celebration of Eric's life will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025, at noon, at Avery United Methodist Church, 1100 Gabby Avenue, Washington. All are welcome!
