Eilene Nancy Were Romano, 93, of Washington, died on March 11, 2022, in Donnell House, Washington, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 13, 1928, in Elam, WV, a daughter of the late Samuel and Rosa Perry Were. A woman whose faith was extremely important to her, Eilene was a devoted member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, country music and cooking. Most of all, Mrs. Romano loved family gatherings, and being surrounded by her beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, whom she adored. On September 4, 1948, she married the love of her life, Dominic Romano, who died on January 4, 2005. Surviving are a son, Mark (Jeannine) Romano, of Lexington, SC; two daughters, Judith (Gary) Stewart, of Washington, with whom she made her home, and Dawn (Ronald) Luketich, of Scenery Hill; a sister, Esther Bellamo, of East Point, MI; eight grandchildren, Jason Madosky, Jennifer Brogdan, Jenese Madosky, Francesca Zottola, Micah Romano, Mark Romano, Amanda Jackson, and Matthew Luketich; sixteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Joann Kolycheck, and Beverly Romano; as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Dick Were and John Were; and three sisters, Mary Were, who died in infancy, Mary Romano, and Teresa Were. The family is very appreciative of the compassionate care that was provided to Mrs. Romano by the staff at the Donnell House. At the request of the deceased, all services were private.
