Edward John Carlson

June 24, 1957 — December 19, 2023

Edward John Carlson, 66 years old of Washington, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. He was born on June 24, 1957, son of the late Theodore Carlson and Margaret Carlson, who survives. Ed was a 1975 graduate of Oxford Area High School of PA where he played many sports and studied business at Waynesburg University. He was an avid golfer for many years until his health declined, but you could find him playing miniature golf with his grandchildren and teaching them the game that he loved so much. He was so passionate about golf, that he tended to the fairways and greens at St. Clair Country Club for over 25 years. On October 19, 2002, he married the love of his life, Rose Manderick-Cross, who survives. They collected many antiques together over the years, and you could catch them stopping off at yard sales or antique shops on their travels. Ed was proud of the home and life they built together, and it was an open house to everyone. Ed’s love was also poured into his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them and always made sure to tell them so. You could always find him eating a hotdog and cheering them on at their sporting events, or in the front row of their performances. In addition to his love of family, friends, and golf, Ed also had a love for all sports, and could find him sitting on the couch watching a game at some part of the day. He had a love for history and science and enjoyed sharing what he learned with his grandkids. He kept his mind sharp by reading the newspaper daily and completing the Sudoku puzzles in them. Ed had a love for the Lord, attended First Baptist Church of Washington for many years where his faith really grew and where he served as a Trustee. Over the past couple of years, he enjoyed worshipping at Washington Alliance Church with his family, and loved serving at the church’s coffee bar with his wife. He was loving and kind in so many ways, always willing to help anyone in need…he had such a big heart, even when his physical heart failed him. Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Natalie Carlson, son Trent Carlson (Jenna), and stepchildren, Amy Price (Curt), and Adam Cross, all of Washington; grandchildren, Layton, Harper, Henley, Jaxon, Lucas, Starr, Sky, and Cooper, all whom he loved dearly and enjoyed each moment with them. Also surviving is his brother Theodore Carlson (Carolyn) of Lancaster and their children, Jon Carlson, and Sarah Gordner (Jason), along with several other nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 27 with Pastor Brian Greenleaf of Washington Alliance Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of him to be made to Washington Alliance Church, 246 Sanitarium Road East, Washington, PA 15301.
