Edmund Francis Sliman Jr.

Edmund Francis Sliman Jr., 78, of Bridgeville, formerly of Washington, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from idiopathic fibrotic lung disease, in his new home in Bridgeville. He was born July 20, 1946, in Washington, a son of the late Edmund Francis Sliman Sr. and Julia Gurney Sliman. Edmund was a 1964 graduate of Trinity High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Washington and Jefferson College in 1968, where he was a member of the honor guard of the Pershing Rifles. After earning his bachelor’s degree, he then entered the U.S. Army in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was awarded National Defense Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal for his work as an armored officer. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Edmund obtained a master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Pittsburgh. He then further obtained his Pennsylvania ACSW license. He was employed by Washington Communities for 30 years as a licensed clinical social worker. Edmund was a former member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Washington. He was a former member of the Elks, where he was a chaplain. He was an excellent artist and created beautiful woodwork. He enjoyed reading, working on cars, fishing for bass and collecting model Lionel Trains. On May 4, 1968, he married Viola Berish Sliman, who survives. They celebrated 56 years together and raised two sons. Also surviving is a son, James J. Sliman. At the request of the deceased, all arrangements are private and entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., Washington. Interment will be held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
