He received the Commendation Medal for meritorious service for the period June 2, 1960, to July 1, 1963. He also received many other medals. Duane was a walking mailman in Houston for over 24 years. He was a man of peace; peace was always his goal. He always had time to listen, with answers full of wisdom and kindness. He was a member of Central Assembly of God in Houston. On October 24, 1985, he married Leona Beadling Dhans, who survives. Along with her came four step children, to whom he was a great and loving father. To her, he was her real dad.  Duane has missed her since she went to be with Jesus on September 29, 2014. They had a bond that could never be broken.
