Duane E. Dewalt, 81, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, whom he loved, on May 29, 2018. He was born September 6, 1936, in Houston, the son of the late Edward and Eleanor Dietz Dewalt. Duane held the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force for 10 years. He was in intelligence and was stationed in Alaska and at the Pentagon. He received the Commendation Medal for meritorious service for the period June 2, 1960, to July 1, 1963. He also received many other medals. Duane was a walking mailman in Houston for over 24 years. He was a man of peace; peace was always his goal. He always had time to listen, with answers full of wisdom and kindness. He was a member of Central Assembly of God in Houston. On October 24, 1985, he married Leona Beadling Dhans, who survives. Along with her came four step children, to whom he was a great and loving father. Surviving are three stepchildren, Michael (Denise) Dhans, Bob (Susan) Dhans and Paulet (Craig) Lang; step grandchildren, Michaela (Michael) Jackanic, Mackenzie Dhans, Christina (Michael) Megyesy, Kylie (Walker Miller) Dhans, and Nathan Delsignor; step great grandchildren, Austin, Tiffany, Hailey, Sara Belle, and Harper; a sister in law, June (George) Simpson; nephews, Billy, Andy and Chris. Deceased is a stepdaughter, Bernadette Dhans, who lived with him and her mother for 3 years, serving as their caregiver. They loved each other deeply. To her, he was her real dad. Duane has missed her since she went to be with Jesus on September 29, 2014. They had a bond that could never be broken. Friends will be received Monday, June 4, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the time of service, at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, with Chaplain James Eric Hertzog and Pastor Todd Semple officiating. Burial is private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175.
