Dorothy Juanita Johnston

Dorothy Juanita Johnston, 96, of Washington, died Thursday, January 2, 2020. She was born August 2, 1923, in Washington, the daughter of the late S. Lawrence A. Polan and Dorothy Hunt Polan. Dorothy was a graduate of Washington High school and was a bookkeeper at Schneider's Dairy, formerly McWreath’s Dairy, for more than 25 years. She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, where she was a life-long member of choir for over 50 years and was a role model in her faith. She was an ordained Deacon, Sunday School teacher, snack lady at vacation bible school and a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Association. Dorothy loved crosswords puzzles and had a great sense of humor. On February 6, 1942, she married Charles W. Johnston, who died February 19, 1986. Surviving are two sons, Thomas M. Johnston of Snellville, GA and Lawrence P. Johnston, Smithfield, PA; two daughters, Susan (Robert) Lindsay of Gettysburg, PA and Sally A. Johnston of Washington; six grandchildren, Michael W. Johnston, Kara L. Johnston, Brian E. and Kevin L. Lindsay, Nathan P. Johnston and Matti R. Johnston; four great grandchildren, Ian, Emma and Cole Johnston and Layne Green; sister-in-law, Trudi Polan; many nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Lawrence Polan, David Polan; a sister, Carolyn Davis and two daughters-in-law, Dana Johnston and Kim Johnston. A service will be held Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith United Presbyterian Church, 900 E. Beau St., Washington with Rev. Jason Heffner officiating. Burial will be Monday, January 6, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Washington Cemetery. Please meet at 12:30 pm at William G.
