Dorothy Jean Harshman

Dorothy Jean Hartzell Briggs Harshman, 95, of Washington, died on Monday, February 11, 2019, in Southminster Place of Presbyterian Senior Care.   She was born on May 29, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of the late Harley and Virginia Rockwell Hartzell.   After attending Trinity High School, she married and settled into the routines of a homemaker.   Dorothy enjoyed reading, local history, genealogy, traveling and writing, having had a few of her short stories published.   She will be fondly remembered for her keen sense of humor, inquisitive mind and her wonderfully mischievous nature.   Her first husband, Robert F. Briggs, and her second husband, James Harshman, are both deceased.   Surviving are a son, Robert (Nancy) Briggs, of Avella; a sister, Janice (Tom) Gordon, of Weyers Cave, VA; six grandchildren, Michael (Diane) Briggs; Griff Briggs, Wesley (Jenn) Briggs, Melissa Holt, Raegan (Eddie) Henneman, Stacey Lins and Stephanie Poore; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.   Deceased are a son, Gary Dennis Briggs; two brothers, Harley Jack Hartzell and Robert Hartzell; and two sisters, Beverly Palarino and Marjorie DeBlasio.   Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA.   Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the time of services, in Grove United Presbyterian Church, 125 E Main St, West Middletown, PA 15379.   Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Citizens Library, 55 South College St., Washington, PA 15301.
