Dorothy Ann Ankrom

April 4, 1936 — January 1, 2019

Dorothy Ann Ankrom, 82, of Lone Pine passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, January 1, 2019. She was born April 4, 1936, in Elm Grove, WV, the second of ten children born to the late August and Clara Bott Ricker. Dorothy married Floyd P. Ankrom on June 1, 1957. In October of that same year, her mother passed leaving her to become a mother and raise some of her younger siblings. She worked as a bookkeeper at Weber Furniture Company upon graduation from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1953, until the birth of her first son. A devoted wife, loving mother and fiercely proud grandmother and great grandmother, Dorothy spent a lifetime nurturing those she loved with her warmth and compassion, delicious homemade meals and mouthwatering pies, cookies and cakes. She especially loved hosting her large gregarious family during the holidays, square dancing and traveling the world with Floyd. In her spare time, she could be found in her beautiful flower garden, tending the birds that came to the backyard, and antiquing at auctions throughout the country. Dorothy was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She was also a lifetime member of Lone Pine Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 61 years, Floyd Ankrom of Lone Pine; three sons, Paul (Laura) Ankrom of Canonsburg, Michael (Rebecca) Ankrom of Ellicott City, MD and Jeffrey (Liza) Ankrom of Beaver; a daughter, Karen (Bayard) Johnson  of Jefferson Hills; a sister, Clara (Chuck) Kleinhans or Prosperity; two brothers, Bob (Cathy) Ricker of Prosperity and Dick (Carla) Ricker of Florida; two sisters  in law, Joyce Ricker of Elm Grove, WV and Barbara Ricker of Herriman, TN; along with eight cherished grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Friends will be received Friday, January 4, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with Father George Chortos as celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Family Hospice and Palliative care for the compassionate care given to Dorothy.
