Donald Wilbert Poland, 88, of Washington, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, in his home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born December 6, 1928, in Washington, a son of Floyd and Olive Phillips Poland.
Mr. Poland attended Hayes Avenue School and served in the Army Air Corps for 2 years.
He worked for Robinson Pipe Cleaning, in security at Universal Cyclops, Bridgeville, for many years, and as a police officer for Canton Township.
Mr. Poland enjoyed going to the casino, vacationing with his family, and woodworking, especially building toys for his grandchildren.
On July 1, 1946, he married Evelyn Roupe, who died May 13, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Donald R. (Julie) Poland of Prosperity; six daughters, Phyllis (Thomas) Moore of Washington, Sandra (Clarence) Jones of Claysville, Sheila Craig, Tammy Kloska and Valerie (Jared) Cole, all of Washington, and Debra (Douglas) Montgomery of Claysville; a brother, Richard Poland of Washington; a sister, Inez Moore of Washington; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Thomas and Robert Poland; and two grandchildren, Eric Poland and a grandson who died at birth.
Friends will be received from 5 till 9 p.m., Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 15th. Burial will follow in North Buffalo Cemetery.
