Derek Hartzog, 32, of Washington, died on June 8, 2023, in the Washington Hospital, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born on February 19, 1991, in Washington, a son of Daniel J. and Kristy S. Salansky Hartzog, of Washington. A McGuffey High School graduate, Derek went on to earn an Associate Degree in the electrician program at Penn Commercial Business and Technical School. Derek loved playing video games with his nephew, Brayden, and spending time with his niece and nephew. He was a big-hearted person, who cared deeply for everyone, and would help anyone in any way possible. Derek had the ability to walk into a room and brighten the day of everyone in that room, and always had an infectious smile on his face. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his girlfriend, Lauren Zubritsky; his sister, Kodi Hartzog, of Washington; his half-brother, Daniel J. Harris, of Washington; three nieces and nephews, Brayden Hubley, Jayde Hughes and Gage Harris; his maternal grand-parents, Michael and Nellie Salansky; paternal grandfather, Clyde (the late Lydia) Hartzog; as well as several uncles, aunts and cousins. Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 3 to 7 p.m., the time of services, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, with Pastor Tim Lindsay officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
