Denis Alan Green

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Denis Alan Green, 77, of Washington. Denis went home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2023, following a lengthy illness. He passed away at home surrounded by his wife and family. Denis was born April 13, 1946, in Washington, the son of Gerard Floyd Green and Bette Ruth Green. He was a 1964 graduate from Fort Cherry High School, McDonald PA where he enjoyed running track, cross country, and basketball. He also attended Slippery Rock University running cross country and track. Denis enlisted in the United States Air Force November of 1967. Duty stations during his service were Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, Misawa Air Force Base, Japan (where he also was on a track team), Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, South Carolina, Ankara Air Station, Turkey and worked in the office of the Air Force Surgeon General in Washington DC. His job duties included Pharmacy Technician and Medical Administration Supervisor. Notable Awards: AF Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and Meritorious Service Medal. After serving 21 years, he retired SMSGT in August of 1988. He pursued a career in Health Care Administration. Denis was employed with McMurray Hills Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Payroll and Accounts Payable, employed 25 years. On June 24, 2000, he married Suzanne Marie Riffee in Key West Harbor, Key West Florida. They were blessed to be married for 23 years. Denis was a member of the Washington First Church of the Nazarene in Washington. He loved serving in different areas within the church. Denis enjoyed biking, fishing, kayaking, dartball, traveling, watching college basketball, and working around the home. He was a kind and selfless person, loved by so many. He is survived by his wife Suzanne Marie Green; daughters, Samantha (Nikolas) Friedline, of Monessen, Melissa (Steve) Stiles, of Fincastle, Virginia; son, Keith (Brittany) Green, of Catawba, Virginia; siblings, Gerry Green, of Castle Rock, Colorado, Dan (Donna) Green of San Antonio, Texas, David “Rick” Green, of Chadbourn, North Carolina, and Cheryl Green, of Washington; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment will be Friday, February 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, with Pastor Carl Kibler officiating. Military honors for veteran SMSGT Denis Alan Green will be accorded by the American Legion Post #175 and the US Army. For those wishing to attend, please meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. The procession will leave promptly at 1:30 p.m. Donations may be made in Denis’s honor to “Wounded Warrior Project” 600 River Avenue, Suite 400, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, 412-471-0935.
