David Kenneth “Dave” Roberts, 79, of Washington, died May 16, 2024. He was born December 2, 1944, in Washington, a son of the late Paul Kenneth Roberts and Mary Holmes Roberts. A graduate of Trinity High School, Mr. Roberts was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving from August 16, 1965, until his honorable discharge on August 15, 1969. He worked as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. Roberts loved to play horseshoes and was a member of the Washington County Horseshoe Club. He was also a member of the VFW in Washington and the American Legion. Mr. Roberts enjoyed spending time at the family-owned cabin, Buck or Bust, which started as a hunting cabin in 1967, but now is a family vacation spot. For many years, he coached Wolfdale boys and girls basketball teams. In 1994, he married Cheryl Ann Varesio, who died October 15, 2005. Surviving are five children, Matt Roberts (Timmi) of Toronto, Ohio, Josh Roberts (Anne) of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Bridgette Garver (Dan) of Hickory, Erica Roberts (Robbie) of Washington, and Casey Lynn Gonzales of Washington; six siblings, Fern Miklic (Henry) of Washington, Tillie Wallace of Washington, Tom Roberts (Shirley) of Claysville, Chuck Roberts (the late Janice) of Toronto, Ohio, Roger Roberts (Carol) of Elyria, Ohio, and Janet Naraskivitch of Washington; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his former spouse, Linda Morgan Richard. Deceased are a brother, Richard Roberts, and two nephews, Ray Wallace and Mike Roberts. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 21st, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 22nd. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
