David "Pete" Powell

David McCarrell “Pete” Powell, 85, of Prosperity, died Friday, October 27, 2023, in The Washington Hospital. He was born March 7, 1938, in West Finley, a son of the late Lemon "Slim" Powell and Agnes Elliott Powell. Mr. Powell attended Trinity High School and worked in a steel mill prior to retiring. He was Baptist by faith. He was a member of the Washington Elks and Loyal Order of Moose in Washington. In addition, Mr. Powell was a member of Syria Shrine and Washington Sunset Lodge #237, as well as The Grand Encampment of Knights Templar. Mr. Powell was a veteran of the Marine Corps. Surviving are his long-time companion, Patricia Adams; two sisters, Karen Farabee (Kenneth) and Melody Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Orville and Harry Powell. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 1st, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, November 2, 2023. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
