Dan Gagich, 91, of Washington, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in Southminster Place, Washington. He was born September 10, 1933, in Avella, a son of the late Serdan Gagich and Mary Oreb Gagich. Dan was a graduate of Hickory High School. He proudly served in the United States Army as a specialist fourth class and artillery crew member. He was honorably discharged in November 1961. He was a member of Edwin S. Linton American Legion Post 175 of Washington. Dan retired from Ironworkers Local #549 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington. Dan was inducted into the PONY League World Series Hall of Fame, where he had coached for 20 years, was a grounds crew member for 15 years and had umpired many games. He was active with the Wash High School marching and steel band and had coached little league/youth football. In 2007, he was inducted Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid Steelers fan. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed going to the library and playing the guitar. He was an active member of the Washington Senior Center, where he loved spending his time. On November 27, 1956, in First Christian Church in Winchester, Virginia, he married Barbara J. Morgan, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Dennis (Regina) Gagich; a daughter, Jeanie ( Glenn) Kunkle; six grandchildren, Dan (Lisa) Gagich, Meredith (Nate) Edwards, Amber (Joe) Schmiesing, Doug (Laura) Kunkle, Halie (Adam) Stickle and Jack (fiancé Jacky) Kunkle; seven great-grandchildren, Adeline, Mel, Eli, Maxine, Amelia, Oliver and Camden; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, Dan J. (surviving wife, Kathleen) Gagich, and 10 siblings, Millicent Vorkapic, Ruby Andrich, Vidosava George, Robert Gagich, John Gagich, William Gagich, Joseph Gagich, Helen Karan, Mary Salopek and Jean Gagich. Family and friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will follow at 3 p.m. Interment will be private in Washington Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Edwin S. Linton American Legion Post 175 of Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington Senior Center, 69 West Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301.
