D. Ray Andrews

D. Ray Andrews, 54 years old, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He has been ill for over the last few months with heart problems. Ray was born August 10, 1962, in Altus, Oklahoma to the late Derwin L. Andrews and Doris Stepp Blessingame. Ray was born and raised in Oklahoma and moved to Washington, Pennsylvania in March of 1993.  He accepted a job position with Monongahela Valley Hospital as Director of Environmental Services.  He was promoted in July of 2004 to Vice President of Administration and Support Services. Ray was involved in various organizations and clubs.  Ray was always a volunteer at his job for any committees needing help.  He volunteered each year with the Special Olympics by attending a golf outing that he was instrumental in starting.  He was also involved in Leadership Washington County. His love for sports was heightened when his three children started participating in football, baseball, soccer and basketball.  He helped coach grades 2nd thru 8th with the East Washington Football team.  He also helped coach for the Washington High School football team as well as a few traveling basketball teams.  He was known to many as “Coach Ray.” When you would meet Ray you would instantly get a history lesson about his home state, Oklahoma!  Ray always wanted to be a tornado chaser. Ray was a huge fan of the football team Oklahoma Sooners. Ray was married to Diana “Missy” Bright on May 16, 1985, in Wichita Falls, Texas, who survives. He leaves behind, sons, Michael and Matthew Andrews, and daughter, Jennifer Andrews; grandkids, Isabelle, Noah, Zayne, Zeke, and one on the way; brother Wayne (Marsha) Andrews of Cache, Oklahoma; a sister, Denise Andrews (Mark Wright) of Washington, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Corey and Hannah Buck of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Savanna, Alyssa and Jake Andrews, Drew and Brock Wright of Oklahoma.  Also surviving are his father-in-law, Lucian Bright, and brother and sister-in-law, Lucien Bright and Cathy Bright Buck.  Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also surviving of Oklahoma. Preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher Ray Andrews, and mother-in-law, Janice Bright. Friends will be received on Thursday, May 4th from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., and Friday, May 5th, from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
