Claire Suzanne Robertson

Claire Suzanne “Sue” Robertson, 77, of South Strabane Township, died Sunday, November 13, 2022, in her home after a nine-month battle with endometrial cancer. Sue was born August 3, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., the youngest of Arthur and Jean Lauterbach’s four children. On November 23, 1963, Sue married Thomas H. Robertson, who survives. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this month. After accepting a transfer with Bethlehem Steel from Chicago to Pennsylvania in 1973, they made their home in the Pittsburgh area. They first settled in Sewickley and then from 1976 to 2006, they lived in East Washington Borough, where she lived in, and loved, her historic landmark home. In 2006, they migrated to South Strabane Township for a single-level lifestyle. Sue was a successful and passionate real estate broker, having spent the majority of her career with Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Peters Township. For 38 ½ years, she took great pride in helping others secure their dream of home ownership and was unwavering in defending the best interests of her clients, many of whom also became friends. Referrals from happy clients were a mainstay of her business. She retired in 2015. An avid collector, Sue was a frequent visitor to area thrift and antique shops and local glass shows, where she displayed a talent for spotting that obscure piece of vintage Lenox china or the perfect glass pedestal cake stand. She encouraged others to find their collecting niche and was generous and thoughtful with enhancing those collections. Sue and Tom maintained a second home in New York’s Chautauqua Lake region for 16 years. Sue loved their regular visits and often lamented about wanting to make their stays more permanent. She was proud that she was able to almost completely furnish and appoint their second home with thrift store and yard sale finds - her version of recycling. She had a knack for showcasing all the things she loved within her homes. Her health and mobility issues grew over the past three years, forcing Sue to relinquish much of her independence, but she continued to exhibit her same spunk and spirit. She loved music from all genres and enjoyed watching musical theater. She loved to travel and hoped to take a Mississippi River cruise before her illness took its toll. Sue was a loving dog mom to a multitude of Shih tzus throughout the years; her current pups, Sofie and Lulu, will miss nap time during the daily viewing of “General Hospital.” Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two children, Thomas F. (Susan) Robertson of Medina, Ohio, and Candace (Damian) Wolf of Ontonagon, Mich.; three grandchildren, Amelia (Ty) West of Pittsburgh, Liam Wolf of Salunga and Zachary Robertson of Troy, Mich.; two step great-grandchildren; three nieces; and a host of friends and caregivers. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her siblings, Gloria (the late Henry) Verboomen, Ronald (the late Dorothy) Lauterbach and Gerald (Carole) Lauterbach. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022, in William G. Neal Funeral Home, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2022, at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadowlands, with the Rev. Carmen D’Amico as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Sue recently enjoyed donating American Girl dolls and their accoutrement to area organizations. To carry on her charitable spirit, memorial donations may be made in Sue’s name to John F. Kennedy Catholic School, 111 West Spruce Street, Washington, PA 15301, designated for Art, Music and Spanish Classes. “The queen is not accepting an audience today.”
