Catherine A. "Katie" Kazakewicz

Catherine A. “Katie” Kazakewicz, 82, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, died peacefully on February 1, 2024. A proud 1959 graduate of Trinity High School, Katie spent her life in Washington, dedicated to her family and her faith. Katie was a devout Catholic and lifetime member of St. Hilary Church. We who loved her are sad for ourselves at this parting, but take great comfort in knowing that she was welcomed home by her Savior, to whom she was not a stranger. Born July 11, 1941, Katie was the youngest child of the late Frank and Anna Pikunas Kazakewicz. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by all her siblings, Joseph Kazakewicz, Helen Sams, Marianne Kastner, Dorothy Rush, and William Kazakewicz, and her great-nephew Scott Garet. She is survived by her nieces Becky (Jim) Garet, Carolyn (Larry) Ashmore, Elaine Sams, and Barbara (Craig) Graver; great-nephews, Michael (Rachel Begg) Garet and Jonathan Garet; cousin, Dolly Solominsky; nieces, nephews, friends, and their families. A bookkeeper for Chambers Insurance, she retired in 2001. Katie was an excellent baker and caramel-maker, loved card games, painting ceramics, trips to the casino, playing bingo, doing scratch-off lottery tickets, and savoring the moment. For all the joy she found in games and dancing and ending the day with a cold one, Katie was a lady. Always well-coifed by her dear friend Pam Engle, Katie took care in being coordinated head-to-toe (accessories included) and comported with decorum. She will be missed, but she will be remembered. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 7th, at 10 am in St. Hilary Church, 320 Henderson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
