Catherine Mae Hohing

March 6, 1946 — May 4, 2022

Today, May 4, 2022, our mom, grandma (Mimi), sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, left this life to continue the next phase of her journey. Born on March 6, 1946, in Pittsburgh, the seventh child, and first girl, to the late Robert E. and Regina Calmus O'Malley Link. Raised on Mt. Washington, PA, she graduated in 1965 from St. Mary's of the Mount in Pittsburgh. On May 9, 1970, she married Otto F. Hohing, from Dormont, who died on March 21, 2010, just weeks before their 40th wedding anniversary. They resided in Castle Shannon until 1976, when they moved to Greene County, where they raised their three children. They then relocated to Washington in 2005. Cathy held several jobs over her lifetime, working as a certified nurse's assistant, cashier, church secretary, before ending her career as a professional caregiver with Home Instead Senior Care, serving several clients. She retired in January, 2010, to devote all her time to caring for her beloved husband, Otto, who died three months after her retirement. Over the years, Cathy held officers positions as a volunteer in her community, children's school, and churches that she attended. Cathy loved to help people in need, judging no one. She tried to treat people the way she wanted to be treated, meeting them where they were at. She was loyal, loving her Savior, mate, children, grandchildren, family, friends and her pets. Surviving are a daughter, Regina (Bryan) Porter; their sons, Zachary and Aidan Porter, from McDonald; a son, Otto R. (Misty Phillips) Hohing; their daughters, Catherine "Katie" Spalding (Dakota) and Amber Cape (Michael), of Washington; and a daughter, Heather (Dr. Emmanuel) Adekunle; their children, Xavier, Ayona, Zakaiya, Yaminah, Uziah, Olesiya and Emaia Adekunle, of Uniontown, OH. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband and parents, are her siblings, Edward M. O'Malley, Robert O'Malley, Thomas R. Link, William Link, Beverly Peacock, and John Link. Friends will be received on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. There will not be a service. A private burial with her husband, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 600 Waterfront Dr., #210, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
