Carol June Cursi Pierce was born on June 6, 1938, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on the morning of September 23, 2023. Carol was born on her family farm in Scenery Hill, PA. to Jacob and Mary Cursi. She was the oldest of 3 children, all daughters, and was preceded in death by her sister Patty Cursi Kennedy and is survived by her youngest sister Jackie Cursi. Carol met the love of her life James (Jim) R. Pierce at age 16. They eloped to Virginia and married on October 9, 1954; one day after Jim’s 18th birthday. Jim and Carol, or “Rosie” as he lovingly called her, were married for over 50 years, and raised 6 children. James Pierce Jr of Elkton Va, Lynn Kalich of Washington PA, Donald Pierce of Pittsburgh PA, Carl Pierce of West Virginia, Cathy Moore of Washington PA, and Janet Denman of Washington PA. Jim was a steel worker and Carol worked in food service while raising 6 kids. Her family was the primary focus of her life. There were many family vacations to Daytona Beach and picnics at Kennywood, Ohio Pyle State Park, and Brooke Hills Park over the years. Carol was a devoted steelers fan, she and Jim were season ticket holders at Three Rivers Stadium. She delighted in going to games with Jim and taking her grandchildren along for the fun. In retirement Jim and Carol purchased a home in Port Orange, FL in the early 1990’s. Over the years the door to the Florida house was always open to family and friends for vacations until Jim’s passing in May of 2005. Carol then returned to Washington to be with family. Carol was an avid reader enjoying all types of books and loved the outdoors. She loved to go camping near the Pymatuning spillway. Family was the most important thing to Carol; her 6 children gave her 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She spent her final years with and caring for them. She would organize and cook for large family gatherings every holiday; her specialty was lasagna. The accomplishment that she was most proud of is that all her children and grandchildren are good parents because of her influence. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Hospice of Washington Donnell House, 10 Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301.
