Carla Jean Ackerman

January 8, 1939 — October 22, 2023

Carla Jean Weaver Ackerman, 84, of Eighty Four, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She is survived by Sherman Ackerman III, her loving husband of 69 years. Together, they had four children, Sherry Ingram (Dan), Nancy Flemming (Wheeler), Sherman IV (deceased) and Cynthia Petro. Regretfully, she had to leave them, along with nine grandchildren, Jennifer Ingram, Jessica Prosperi, Emily Horn, Carla Sullivan, Wheeler Flemming Jr., Kate Mayowski, Daniel Sherman Ackerman, Matthew Petro, and Kelly Neely; as well as eleven great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Amelia Prosperi, Ella Jean Horn, Redmond, Adeline, George, and Spike Sullivan, Parker, Mary Wallace and Collier Petro, Hayes and Olivia Neely, and Enola Mayowski. Being Mom, Grandma, and GiGi was a source of great joy for her and for all of them, too! Carla's professional career began at Jessop Steel Company in the Birmingham District Sales Office. She and Sherm were soon transferred to the Chicago office, where they were challenged with closing the office, along with those in Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Indianapolis, creating the Midwest Regional Office. There, she managed six field representatives and contributed to generating about 30% of Jessop's sales revenue. In 1984, based on her outstanding performance in the District/Regional Office, she was offered the position of Western Division Inside Sales Manager for the Stainless Plate Division. There, Carla finished her outstanding 26-year career in the Specialty Metals Industry. Carla had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She liked the Smoky Mountains and the many years spent accompanying her husband Sherman and family on their annual hiking trips to Mt. LeConte and Gatlinburg. She and Sherm also enjoyed a number of memorable trips, including the South Pacific, visiting Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora. Other adventures included exploring the North Cascades of Washington, the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, and Lake Louse in Banff. Some of her fondest memories include frequent family trips to Disney World and the Florida Keys. Along the way, she was a frequent volunteer with various organizations. Her obituary would not be complete, however, without noting that she was an avid shopper, particularly for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, GiGi will be terribly missed by those who loved her so dearly. Rest in peace darling Carla Jean. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the America Diabetes Association, 100 W Station Square Dr., #1900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or The National Kidney Foundation, 2403 Sidney St., Ste 205, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
