Carl D. “Bub” Gunnerson, 81, of Washington, died on Monday, February 18, 2019, in Mercy Hospital. He was born on October 23, 1937, in Butler, a son of the late Carl E. and June Thompson Gunnerson. He was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School. Carl was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis, and served as an MP in Germany for two years. Mr. Gunnerson was a member of Washington Alliance Church, where he held various offices for many years, including assistant treasurer and deacon. He also enjoyed attending small group Bible study, and singing in the Washington Alliance Church Choir and the Men’s Quartet. Mr. Gunnerson worked for many years in inside sales, in the electrical field, before retiring from Tristate Supply. Carl volunteered at the Washington Area Humane Society for 20 years and at the Washington Christian Outreach for 15 years. In the early 1960’s, he coached boy’s basketball at 6th Ward Grade School. He loved softball, and he ran the Washington Alliance Church Softball League for 34 years. In 2008, at age 75, he had to retire from playing softball, which lead to him coaching and umpiring. In 2018, for his many contributions to ASA of PA, District 7, Washington County Softball, for over 50 years as a player, umpire and League Commissioner, he was enshrined on the Wall of Honor in the ASA of PA Hall of Fame. Carl enjoyed the fish fries held at the various churches during the Lent season. However, one of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildrens’ band performances and Bible quiz meets. On September 11, 1965, he married Karen Lee Kosey, who survives. This past September, they celebrated 53 years of marriage. Also surviving are two daughters, Tracy Lynne (Darrin) Barber, of Bethel Park, and Karla Sue (Adam) Taylor, of Washington; four grandchildren, Lindsey Barber, Jordan Barber, Emma Taylor and Ethan Taylor; two nieces, Darla Barney and Jana Palmer; several great nieces and nephews; and two great-great nieces. Deceased is a sister, Sandra Thompson. Friends will be received on Thursday, February 21, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday, February 22, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, where services will held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019, with Rev. Brian Greenleaf officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
