Cana Rochelle Carter

August 17, 1971 — February 3, 2023

Cana Rochelle Carter, 51, of Boynton Beach, FL, died on February 3, 2023, in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. She was born on August 17, 1971, in Washington, a daughter of Richard “Brice” Carter and Glenna J. Grego Carter. Cana was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, and had attended Immaculate Conception Church when she was younger. Ms. Carter was a 1989 graduate of Trinity High School, where she was in the band dance line. She competed in many competitions, including the prestigious Bands of America. During her time with the band, she made many wonderful friends, whom she kept in touch with throughout her life. Cana went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in education from California University of Pennsylvania in 1993, and an associate degree in graphic design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She was a kind, compassionate person, who had a passion for helping children, and loved being a teacher. Cana taught special needs children, and in the middle school. She taught at Somerset Canyons Academy in Boynton Beach, FL, and at Fusion Academy in Boca Raton, FL. She was also passionate about animals, having been a proud rescuer of her beloved dog, Nico. Cana missed her sweet Papillon dogs, Kazoo and Ziggy and her Bichon Frise, Max, and also loved Golden Retrievers. Following a double lung transplant in 2006, she proudly and courageously completed a relay marathon in Pittsburgh, where she returned to complete the Pittsburgh half marathon twice. Cana felt so blessed to have had a transplant, that it became her mission to give back. She was very involved in charities, especially Cystic Fibrosis, and she donated all of the proceeds from her artwork sales to charity. Surviving, in addition to her devoted parents, are her fiancé, Jeff Cabrera; aunts and uncles, Cecilia Samreny (the late Paul), Linda Grego (the late William), Gretchen (Ray) Clore, Russell (Janean) Grego, Jill Ellis, Patti (George) Sprowls, Jack (Margie) Carter, and Greg (Liz) Carter; a special second aunt, Joyce (Steve) Mesko; as well as many cousins. Deceased are her maternal grandparents, William and Betty Jane Grego; and paternal grandparents, Jack and Helen Carter.
