Betty Lou Gontas

Betty Lou Gontas, 77, of Washington, died on Friday, December 7, 2018, in her home. She was born on April 9, 1941, in Washington, a daughter of the late Russell James “Pete” McWhorter and Betty Elizabeth Durbin McWhorter. Mrs. Gontas was a graduate of Washington High School. For over ten years, Betty worked at Mayview State Hospital. She enjoyed traveling, camping, swimming and going to the casino. On December 10, 1960, she married John Gontas, Sr., who survives. Also surviving are a son, John Gontas, of Washington; a daughter, Betty Jo Gontas, of Washington; a brother, Russell McWhorter, of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Carolyn Jeffers. Friends will be received on Sunday, December 9, 2018, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.  There will not be a service.  Friends and family are invited to pay their last respects immediately following visitation, at 7 p.m. A private burial in Washington Cemetery will be held at a later date.
