Betty Bedillion

Betty Jean Burt Bedillion, 78, of Washington, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Washington Hospital. She was born March 2, 1945, in Washington, the only daughter of the late Harold Humbert and Eleanor “Gertie” Piatt Burt. Mrs. Bedillion was a 1963 graduate of Trinity High School and a 1967 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania where she earned a degree in elementary education. She served as a first grade teacher for over a decade at Borland Manor Elementary, Canon McMillan School District, where she found great fulfillment teaching children to read and inspiring a love of learning. On June 4, 1966, she married James Dean Bedillion, who died August 18, 2017. Mrs. Bedillion was a member of the Church of the Covenant where she volunteered as a youth group advisor. She was an active member of the Martha Washington Garden Club, having served as president and was also a member of the Oglebay Garden Club. For a number of years, she participated in craft shows, where she displayed her “Crafts by Betty.” Surviving are a son, James Burt Bedillion of Washington; three brothers, Dan Burt (Dolores) of Washington, Harold Burt (Valerie) of Washington, and Jack Burt (Donna Morosco) of Washington; a sister-in-law, Laura Burt; nieces and nephews Danny Burt (Kata), Denny Burt (Christina), Mike Burt, Mark Burt (Nicole), Matt Burt (Amy), Jackie Burt (Selena Ball), Tiffany Bostic (Seth) and Stephanie Burt (Brad Benson); and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Deceased is a brother, Don Burt. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2024, and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Monday, February 26, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Betty dedicated her life to helping others and cared deeply about children.
