Bette Lou Johnson

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Bette Lou Halling Johnson, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, with her family by her side, on May 29, 2022. She was born June 25, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a daughter of Benjamin Sumner Halling and Borgel Elfreda Evansen Halling. Mrs. Johnson attended the University of Minnesota and was the retired executive secretary and chief financial officer of Allegheny Engineering Company. She volunteered for over 30 years at The Washington Hospital, Christian Outreach and First Lutheran Church, where she had been a member for many years as well as a bell ringer. Mrs. Johnson was also a member of VASA Lodge, Sons of Norway, Eastern Star, and Red Hat Society, and helped with activities at Thomas Campbell Apartments. She was a wonderful role model for her family as well as others. The Johnson family is thankful for the wonderful, loving care provided to Bette by the staff at Strabane Woods, where she made her home for the past three years. On June 21, 1952, she married Clarence L. Johnson, who died November 6, 1987. Surviving are three children, Jeannie King (Tom) of Jacksonville, Florida, Carlton Richard Johnson (the late Lucinda) of Washington, and Don Johnson (Krissy) of Newark, Ohio; four grandchildren, Thomas King IV (Jessica), Emily King, Larson Johnson (Sami), and Hunter Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Thomas King V, Benjamin King, Michaela King, and Jacob King; a granddaughter-in-law, Kristen King; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a grandson, Erik J. King, and five brothers, Jerome, John, Sherman, Lester, and Robert Halling. Friends will be received from 3 till 5 p.m., Sunday, June 5th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 till 11 a.m., the time of service, Monday, June 6th, in First Lutheran Church, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington, with Rev. Robert Grewe officiating. The service will be live-streamed via the church Facebook page at https://www.flcwash.church. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church at the above address.
