Beatrice Meriweather, 97, of Washington, passed Sunday, August 26, 2018, in her home, surrounded by her son, Marvin, and his fiancée, Martha May. She was born April 12, 1921, in Hephzibah, Georgia, a daughter of Mike and Marie Barnes Gilchrist. Mrs. Meriweather was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she served as a deaconess. She had an open heart for anyone in need. Mrs. Meriweather worked as a housekeeper and babysitter. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and baking bread for the neighborhood. Mrs. Meriweather was also known for the sweet potato pies she baked at the holidays and gave to her neighbors. Her husband, Lewis Meriweather, died in 2005. Also deceased are two sons, James and Lewis; three daughters, Nancy, Mildred and Zearolean; and four brothers, Robert, James, Mike II, and Ham. Surviving are a son, Marvin Meriweather of Washington; a daughter, Arvonia Meriweather of Washington; 10 grandchildren, Randy, Lew, Zelphia, Brian, Marvin, Felicia, Theresa, Kevin, Amanda and Miranda; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 1st, in Washington Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 901 North Main Street, Washington. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Those attending the funeral service are to go directly to the church on Saturday.
