Barbara Jean Petty, 87, of Washington, died Sunday, January 9, 2022, in UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born September 7, 1934, in Washington, a daughter of the late Anthony Popeck, Sr., and Sabina Bobik Popeck. Mrs. Petty graduated from Washington High School, and worked as a secretary at Day’s Inn, from where she retired. She loved her cat, Bootsie, and enjoyed knitting, reading, solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and her work with Alzheimer’s patients. Mrs. Petty enjoyed going to church and was a member of St. Hilary Church. On May 25, 1968, she married Joseph “Jack” Petty, who died March 28, 1981. Surviving are four children, Joseph (Sherry) Petty, Patricia (the late Richard) Stark, John Patrick Petty, and Kathleen Petty; a brother, Anthony (the late Joan) Popeck, Jr.; a sister, Kathleen Popeck; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Gretchen Petty; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Thomas Petty, and a brother, Daniel Popeck. Friends will be received from Noon to 2 p.m., the time of a Blessing Service, Saturday, January 15th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Father John Lynam officiating. Private burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
