Barbara Lee Harris

February 9, 1934 — May 16, 2024

Barbara Lee Harris, 90, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Woodside Place in Washington. Barb was born on February 9, 1934, the daughter of the late William and Lillian Fonner. She graduated from Washington High School in 1952. On September 28, 1957, Barb married her “Rocco”, Ronald “Rock” Harris, who passed away exactly one month prior, on April 16, 2024. Barb and Rock shared an amazing life together that was full of love, happiness, adventure, and laughter. We are happy to know that they are reunited once again. Once her six children were grown up, Barb worked at Lang’s clothing store. She was a current member of Immaculate Conception - Saint James Parish in Washington. Barb loved her family. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children or grandchildren, either at her house, on a trip, at a soccer game, or just a night out to eat. She always kept everyone on their toes with her ornery, spitfire personality. Barb had a true talent for crafts and enjoyed making decorations for every holiday. Barb lived for Christmas time. She loved to spoil her family and have everyone come to her house on Christmas afternoon to open a mountain of gifts. Every corner of her house would be decorated for the season, and she was most proud of her elaborate outdoor Christmas lights. Even with her love for Christmas, her favorite week of the year was spent in Cape May, where you could find her sunbathing on a lounge chair with her radio, a spray bottle of ocean water, and a Pepsi beside her. Her grandkids loved to tease her by carrying her down to the ocean and making her get in. She would scream, but mostly laugh, the whole way to the water. Barb was a huge fan of NASCAR and was head-over-heels for Dale Earnhardt. When at home, you could find Barb doing yardwork, sitting on her deck, down in the cellar watching QVC, or going for a ride with Rock, listening to Elvis and drinking a milkshake. Barb had a feisty and energetic spirit, and always made life so much fun. She was an awesome Mom and Gram. Her family will miss her so much. Waiting for Barb in Heaven along with Rock are two brothers, Bill Fonner and Thomas Fonner, a daughter, Cheryl Johnston, a son-in-law, Vaughn Johnston, a daughter-in-law, Amy Harris, and a grandson, Ryan Johnston. Surviving are sons Mikey Harris, Ronnie (Sandy) Harris, and Tommy (Kristy) Harris and daughters Tracy (Derek) Desmond and Jody Polen. Grandchildren Chelsea (James Ridgedell) Johnston, Nikki (Rudi) Baker, Adam Johnston, Travis Polen, Tanya (Jeremy) Dearing, Jessica (Justin) VanHorn, Samantha (Garrett) Korpus, Alexa (Ben) Cornelius, Tyler Harris, Cody Harris, Luke (Georgia) Desmond, Rachel Polen, Aaron (Morgan) Harris, and Emma Harris. Great-grandchildren Maci and Hadli Baker, Stella and Ava Korpus, Colter Desmond, Bella, Cash, Bristol, and Cali Dearing, Landon Ebright, and Jaxon and Ryker VanHorn. Close nephew Joe (Brenda) Harris. Family member Cliff Polen. Many additional and special nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, with the Rev. Michael Peck officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. In remembrance of Barb’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to John F. Kennedy Catholic School, 111 West Spruce Street, Washington, PA 15301.
