Arthur Irwin Luba

Arthur Irwin Luba, 95, of Washington, died December 29, 2021, in Southminster Place of Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington. He was born March 20, 1926, in Canonsburg, a son of Alexander Luba and Veronica Piechowski Luba. A World War II veteran, Mr. Luba served in the Navy as a seaman, first class, and was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal. He was a horse owner, driver and trainer at the Meadows Racetrack, where he served as a racing official and judge for five years. Mr. Luba was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, woodworking, and crafts, and collected arrowheads. He enjoyed yardwork so much that his family called him “Lawnmower Man.” On June 16, 1946, he married Kathryn Elizabeth Cappelli, who died April 18, 2017. Surviving are a son, Arthur M. (Joann) Luba of Washington; a sister, Dorothy Mahannah of Sharon; a grandson, Matthew M. (Hillary) Luba of Washington; a sister-in-law, Patricia C. (Marvin) Watson of Washington; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are sisters, Gertrude and Constance; and brothers, John, Alexander, Edward, Louis, Gabriel, Leonard, Alfred, Ernest and Lawrence. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 6th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, January 7th, in St. Hilary Church, with Father Michael Peck as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gateway Hospice or Presbyterian Senior Care.
