Allen B. Coffield

Allen B. Coffield, 85, of Avella, died February 3, 2023, in his home. He was born June 19, 1937, in Moundsville, WV, the son of the late Clarence E. and Doris I. Allen Coffield. A 1956 graduate of Moundsville High School, he retired from B.F. Goodrich/ TCI, where he was an Assistant Manager. He had also worked at Firestone, in Washington; Dave’s Tire, in Steubenville; Worldwide Tire, in Washington; and Tire Center Inc., in Washington. Mr. Coffield proudly served his country from 1958-1960 with Battery B, 1st Howitzer Battalion, 37th Artillery of the United States Army. Allen was a member of Limestone Presbyterian Church, Atlasburg VFW, American Legion Post #175, Washington Moose Lodge, and the Arms Club, Washington. He enjoyed classic car shows. On May 17, 2008, he married Geraldine “Gerri” Tender Smitsky, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kathy (George) Korngiver, of McMechen, WV; stepsons, Brian J. (Marie) Smitsky, of Burgettstown, and Scot J. Smitsky, of Washington; siblings, Clarice Kestner, of Moundsville, WV, Carolie (Ronald) Plants, of Wheeling, William (Brenda) Coffield, of Moundsville, WV, Howard (Karen) Coffield, of Moundsville, WV, and Barbara Coffield, of Columbus, OH; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vincent (Bonnie) Tender, Pauline Tender, Tommy and Dena Tender, Greg and Judy Tender; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Kordack, Todd (the late Jennifer) Korngiver, Katie and Logan Smitsky, and Blake and Kailyn Smitsky, and Kari (the late Bryan) Korngiver; great- grandchildren, Andrea, Jacob, Abigail, Rylie, Aubrey, Emery, Kamryn, and Sophia; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Dwayne Loughry and sons, Robert and Nick, and Hershel Knox. Family and friends will be received Monday, February 6, 2023, 10:30 am until 1:30 pm in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A service will follow at 1:30 pm followed by a procession to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military Honors will be accorded by the Honor Guard of Edwin Scott Linton, American Legion Post 175, of Washington.
