Alice Elizabeth Miller, of Claysville, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, in her home. She was formerly of Genoa, Illinois, and moved to Claysville in 1991. She was born October 17, 1928, in Oak Forest, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Samuel Newton Kern and Louie Blanche Chess Kern. Alice retired as a nurse’s aide from Community Care Inc., after 35 years of employment. She was a member of Zion Methodist Church, until its closing. Alice loved her cats, watching and feeding birds (especially hummingbirds), and hand feeding deer. She loved all animals and helping others. She greatly enjoyed spending her time with family. In 1957, she married Verlin “Red” Miller, who passed away in 1988. Her former companion, Joseph Gelli, passed away in 2006. Surviving are many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many loving family members. Deceased are six brothers, Leslie Kern, David Kern, Arthur Kern, Leroy Kern, William Kern and Charlie Kern, and a sister, Annabell Anderson. Alice was the last of her immediate family. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2024. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery, Avella.
