Albert Lyle Mercer, 85, of Washington, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, in his home. He was born August 30, 1939, in Spraggs, a son of the late Albert “Pete” Mercer and Mary Toothman Mercer. Albert graduated from Waynesburg High School and had attended barber school. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. For 60 years, Albert was the owner of Mercer’s Barber Shop located in the Route 18 Plaza, formerly located in the K-mart Plaza. He was a member of the Arden Club, Westland Club and Slovak Club. Albert enjoyed gardening and watching Westerns on television, listening to Willie’s Roadhouse on the radio and he loved Anne Murray. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. On September 1, 1962, he married Alferetta Marie Barr Mercer, who passed away April 9, 2014. Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Mercer, Barbara Williams and Doris (Raymond) Clemens; four grandchildren, Brandon (Niki) Presto, Matthew (Casey) Presto, April Williams, Ashley (Ryan) Badders; and four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Mila, Noah and Finley; and his beloved dog, Ginger. Decease, in addition to his wife and parents, is a brother, Jesse Mercer. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2025, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
