Fred Evans Sr., 83, of Washington, died at 4:47 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2006, in Washington Hospital.
He was born December 9, 1922, in Vestaburg, a son of Cedar and Catherine Cole Evans.
Mr. Evans worked for over 40 years as a coal miner in Marianna Mine. He was a former member of Polaski and Slovak clubs. He attended Trinity High School.
Mr. Evans was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Rhineland and Central European theaters, receiving Good Conduct Medal and European-American Theater of Operation (EAMETO) Medal.
Surviving are two sons, Fred Evans Jr. and Bruce (Kathy) Evans, both of Washington; two daughters, Sandra (Terry) Wright and Linda (Ed) Sonson, both of Washington; a brother, Samuel Evans of Washington; a sister, Rita Jenkins of Washington; six grandchildren, Kimberly Rusilko, Terry Wright, Eddie Sonson, Amy Burk, Justin Evans and Jocelyn Evans; and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased are five brothers, William, Charles, Richard, Harry and Michael Evans; and three sisters, Nettie Charnesky, Lillian Cecil and Anna Carrow.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 23. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
