John Sheldon Gidley, 67, of Houston, died unexpectedly Monday, September 19, 2005, in his residence. He was born December 24, 1937, in Waynesburg, a son of Harry A. and E. Alice Zimmerman Gidley. Mr. Gidley graduated from Washington High School in 1955 and attended Washington & Jefferson College. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1956 and, after being discharged in 1958, served in the Marine Corps Reserve. He worked at Washington Steel, Houston plant, for 38 years. His last position there was as casting foreman. He was a member of Golf Club of Washington and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. On April 15, 1961, he married Lois Miklic, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Jodi) Gidley of Atlanta, Ga., and Scott (Nicole) Gidley of Cary, N.C.; a daughter, Jody (Robert) Stein of Venetia; and six grandchildren, Robert Stein III, Sarah Gidley, Bridget Stein, John Gidley, Grace Gidley and Megan Nicole Gidley.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 23, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial to follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200, Pittsburgh.
