David L. Jones, Sr., 60, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, formerly of Washington, PA, died suddenly at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2005, at his residence. He was born on December 15, 1944, in Washington, PA, a son of Floyd P. and Ruth Brownlee Jones.
Mr. Jones was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal With 2 Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
Mr. Jones was employed as a manager at the Washington Consumer’s Discount Company. He was a member of The Central Assembly of God in Houston, PA. He refereed for basketball, volleyball and softball games. Previously he had been employed for 25 years at City Financial. He had also done painting and wall-papering.
He was a member of the B.P.O.E. #776.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of East Washington High School.
On March 4, 1968, he married Ruth Ann Bernett, who survives. Also surviving are a son, David L. Jones, Jr., of Olive Branch, MS; 2 brothers, Doc K. Jones, of Washington, PA and Richard (Sandy) Jones of Middletown, Delaware; a sister, Amy (John) Taggart of Washington, PA; and 2 grandchildren, Taylor Conner and Hunter Jones.
Friends of David L. Jones, Sr. will be received on Wednesday, September 21, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Jason Houston officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Trauger, PA.
Military Honors will be conducted graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
