Francis W. Aitken, 88, of Washington, died Monday, Novembr 3, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born September 15, 1920, in Hackett, a son of Thomas and Leona Bayne Aitken.
On July 30, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, receiving the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations Medal and the Good Conduct Medal and attaining the rank of Tech 5. He was honorably discharged on October 15, 1945.
Mr. Aitken worked for Montour Railroad for thirty-three years, retiring January 3, 1979.
His wife, Anne Watsula, died in 1976.
He is survived by Virginia Phillips, of Washington, who was his caregiver for several years.
Friends are to meet at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2008, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
