Paul H, Brookman, 84, of Washington, died on Friday, November 7, 2008, in the Washington Hospital Emergency Room, after a 19-month illness.
He was born July 15, 1924, in Mercer, PA, a son of Linn and Mariah Wolf Brookman.
Mr. Brookman was a graduate of Taylor-Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, PA.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army Air Force, stationed in Panama.
In 1952, he became a firefighter for the City of Washington, where he worked for 37 years; serving the last 16 years as Fire Chief. Upon retiring from the fire department in 1989, he was employed as the facilities director at Immaculate Conception Church for six years.
Mr Brookman was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, a past member of the Kiwanis Club, and participated in many other civic organizations.
He was closely involved in Twist Softball, a huge fan of Pittsburgh sports and enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his family.
He was involved for many years in organizing the Christmas parade in Washington.
On January 1, 1947, he married E. Louise Redd, who survives.
Surviving are 2 sons, Linn (Rebecca J.) Brookman and Charles (Rebecca A.) Brookman, both of Washington; a sister, Leona Hogg of Washington; 4 grandchildren. Lori (Wells) Morrison, Amy (Ron) Cerino, Courtney (Paul) Kukovich and Brandi (Craig) Buken and 6 great grandchildren, Lauren, Paige and Blake Steen; Camrynn and Fallyn Gonzalez, and Natalie Kukovich.
Deceased are a daughter, Katherine, who died in infancy, 3 brothers, Earl, William, and his twin brother, Charles; 3 sisters, Mary McCoy, Betty Barale and Grace Gildow.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., with Father John Bauer and Father William Feeney as celebrants.
Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
