J&L Steel retiree was WWII Corps of Engineers veteran.
Walter Linsey Kelley, 85, of Washington, died at 2:57 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2005, in Donnell House, Washington, following a lengthy illness. He was born October 27, 1919, in Wolfdale, a son of James and Mabel Roup Kelley. During World War II, Mr. Kelley served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Asia, South Pacific, India and Burma. He was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal with one bronze service star. He worked as an engineer at J&L Steel in Aliquippa for 33 years. Mr. Kelley was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8319, Jessop Club, Pulaski Club and Polish Club. He attended Friendship Community Church and as a child attended Allison Avenue Baptist Church. On October 27, 1945, he married Mildred Merritt, who survives. Also surviving are five brothers, James Everette, Thomas E., Samuel Charles, John R. and Dave H. Kelley, all of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, George W. and Edward M. Kelley.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in North Buffalo Church Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
