Shirley Elizabeth Friend

Shirley Elizabeth Friend, 73, of Washington, died unexpectedly, Thursday, March 13, 2009, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born March 19, 1935, in Washington, a daughter of Levi Kenneth and Irene Morris Pickens. Mrs. Friend was a selector at Brockway Glass for thirteen years, worked at James Market for two years, and at Metro Glass. On May 8, 1953, she married Harold Eugene Friend, who died February 10,1982. Surviving are a son, Gary Lee Friend, of Washington; two daughters, Sherry Lynn (Jeff) Duritza, of Canonsburg, and Kimberly Diane Friend, of Washington; a brother, Robert Pickens, of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Mary Louise McKinney and Carolyn Crites, both of Washington, Barbara A. Stower, of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Norma J. Abraham, of Avella; five grandchildren, Kristin Friend, Julie Friend, Brandon Duritza, Jordan Duritza, and Ryan Duritza; three great grandchildren, Alyssa Nicole Rager, Braden Jeffery Rager, and Briaunna Nicole Stolitca. Friends will be received Saturday, 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, with Pastor Michael Roach and Pastor Rick Bruckner, co-officiating.
