Washington Hospital maternity ward nurse
Shirley Jean Harps, 80, of North Franklin Township, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 12, 2006, in the Washington Hospital emergency room.
She was born March 13, 1925, in Crothers Station, a daughter of John T. and Emma Wanita Miller Frye.
Mrs. Harps was a 1943 graduate of Trinity High School and a graduate of Washington Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse in the maternity ward at Washington Hospital for 27 years.
Mrs. Harps was a member of Avery United Methodist Church and a volunteer at City Mission in Washington.
She enjoyed reading and sewing.
On July 2, 1953, she married Paul Harps, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Alan LeRoy (Debra) Harps of Washington; five daughters, Barbara J. (Alan) DePaoli of Pittsburgh, Kimberly A. (William) Pareso of Columbus, Ohio, Janice M. Neff of Radcliff, Ky., Vicky L. Hollingsworth of Vine Grove, Ky., and Bylle J. Davidson of Washington; a brother, Billy C. Frye of Washington; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a sister, Virginia Carson; and three brothers, Sherwood M. Frye, Milton J. "Butch" Frye and Robert E. Frye.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Harry Speakman officiating. Entombment will be in Washington Cemetery Mausoleum.
