Charles Ernest Yater Sr., 72, of Washington, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005, in Washington Hospital following a three-year illness.
He was born February 22, 1933, in Washington, a son of Silas and Bessie Bails Yater.
Mr. Yater served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 5th Ordnance Company, 8th Division, and received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal.
He was a member of Keystone Baptist Church.
Mr. Yater was employed as a textile worker by Hales Manufacturing in Connecticut.
On October 6, 1982, he married Erma Irene Toland, who survives.
Also surviving are seven sons, Charles E. Yater Jr. of Georgia, James Edward Yater of Washington, John S. Yater of Florida, Mark Robison of Claysville and James L. Rosen Jr., Harley E. Robison Jr. and Dale Robison, all of Washington; five daughters, Laura V. Yater, Kathy Yater, Joyce Scott and Marlene Robison, all of Washington, and Terry Robison of Langeloth; a sister, Loretta Pettit of Avella; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Bessie Ann Yater; a granddaughter, Lisa Yater; seven brothers, Melvin, Clarence, Clyde, John, Robert, Earl and Paul Yater; and four sisters, Hannah Hartzog, Marie Gray, Esther Hartzog and Frieda Tulock.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, November 12, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Burial will be in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Erma Yater in care of the funeral home.
