Shirley A. Paul

Avid golfer and gardener from Lone Pine. Shirley A. Paul, 90, of Lone Pine, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005, in Washington County Health Center, Washington, following a seven-year illness. He was born February 8, 1915, in Beallsville, a son of Shirley D. and Adeline Sowers Paul and was raised on Turkeyfoot Farm. A graduate of Beallsville High School, Mr. Paul faithfully attended 69 of his class reunions prior to his illness. On July 22, 1933, he married Delphia Mae Ball of Centerville, who died April 14, 1976. He was a member of Lone Pine Christian Church. Mr. Paul was employed by Bethlehem Steel at Marianna Mines as operator of the processing cleaning plant, retiring in 1976. He was an avid golfer, winning several senior tournaments. He was a wonderful gardener, with special interest in growing tomatoes. Mr. Paul was a devoted grandfather, loving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Surviving are a daughter, Twila Mae Ritchey and son-in-law, James Ritchey of Washington; a sister, Eleanor Wendall of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Lois Ann Paul of Washington and Virginia Ball Crow of Charleroi; five grandchildren, Kevin Paul, Keith Paul and Kelly Pucino, all of Rhode Island, and Rhonda Weller and Brenda Reese; and 11 great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his beloved wife, Delphia, are a son, Shirley James Paul; grandson, James Alan Ritchey; great-grandson, Jeremy Ritchey; three brothers, Preston, Merle and Marvin Paul; and a sister, Berndaee Paul. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, with the Rev. Donald DeWeese officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Pine Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association.
