Kathleen Moran Yaquinto

May 24, 1953 — October 7, 2008

Deeply devoted to her faith Kathleen Moran Yaquinto, 55, of Washington, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, in her home. She was born May 24, 1953, in Plainfield, N.J., a daughter of Joseph and Marjorie Foley Moran. At the age of 17, her mother died; she then helped to raise her younger sister. Mrs. Yaquinto graduated from Academy of Holy Angels High School and earned a bachelor of arts in education from Steubenville (Ohio) College, where she met her husband in her senior year. She was a member of Sigma Phi and had remained closely connected to her sorority sisters. She certainly will be missed at their annual "Big Chill" event. She once taught grade school in Regina Chaley Catholic School, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and, prior to starting her family, taught at John F. Kennedy Catholic School. For the last eight years, Mrs. Yaquinto was employed as a resource coordinator at Washington Communities MH/MR Inc. She continued to work until her most recent hospitalization in late September. Mrs. Yaquinto closely was involved in her daughters' fast-pitch softball careers. Having experienced three devastating illnesses - a ruptured brain aneurysm in 1999, breast cancer in 2005, and finally, the illness that claimed her life, ovarian cancer - she was involved with American Cancer Society and was a Relay for Life participant. Mrs. Yaquinto also volunteered her time to drive other cancer patients for treatments. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was deeply devoted to her faith. Mrs. Yaquinto's passion was gourmet cooking. She was very dedicated to her clients and her dear friends, all of whom will greatly miss her. On August 6, 1977, she married Gary Dennis Yaquinto, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Carlee Ann Yaquinto and Lauren Moran Yaquinto, both of Washington, and a sister, Susan (Larry) George of Tucson, Ariz. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, October 10, in Immaculate Conception Church, with Father William Feeney as celebrant. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kathy's Cache, a fund established at Washington Communities to assist her underprivileged clients. Please call 724-225-6940 for details.
