Richard J. Arbes

Mayview State Hospital mechanic Richard John Arbes, 75, of Washington, died Friday, January 6, 2006, in his home. He had been ill since March 2005. He was born April 11, 1930, in Upper St. Clair, a son of John and Emma Krabber Arbes. Mr. Arbes served in the U.S. Air Force as a rigger on radio towers in Newfoundland. He was a mechanic at Mayview State Hospital for 15 years. Mr. Arbes was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington and Masonic Lodge 297 in Canonsburg. On July 4, 1953, he married Maxine Patterson, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Brad L. (Debbie) Arbes of Monongahela and Richard J. (Carla) Arbes Jr. of Scott Township; a daughter, Marcy (Edward) Bunnell of Washington; a brother, Albert F. Arbes of Upper St. Clair; two brothers-in-law, John Patterson and David "Popeye" Patterson; 12 grandchildren, Brandon, Brad, Bryan, Brett and Brianna Arbes, Dave Bowers, Alexis Arbes, Shain and Chad Baker and William, Kasey and Samantha Bunnell. A sister, Emma Propst, is deceased. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 9, with the Rev. Susan VandeKappelle officiating. Burial will follow in Upper Buffalo Cemetery. Masonic Lodge 297 of Canonsburg will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice, Suite 10, 201 South Johnston Road, Houston, PA 15342.
