Joseph Stephen Horency

Mineworker, avid hunter and fisherman. Joseph Stephen Horency, 91, of Washington, died at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, November 20, 2005, in Donnell House, Washington. He had been ill since March. He was born July 21, 1914, in Plymouth, a son of Joseph Florian and Susan Brindzo Horency. He was a graduate of the former Hurst High School, now Mt. Pleasant High School. Mr. Horency was a member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, Washington. He retired from Marianna Mine 58 after more than 41 years. Mr. Horency was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22, Polish Club and Slovak Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. On September 16, 1939, he married Nellie Stella Kapis, his caregiver, to whom he was married for 66 years. Also surviving are three sons, Joseph Horency and wife Violet of Lagrange, Ohio, Stanley Horency and wife Madolyn of Washington and Edward Horency and wife Bonnie of Washington; a sister, Helen West of West Mifflin; seven grandchildren, Justine Morris, Joseph Horency III, Kirk Horency, Steven Horency, Denise Kapp, Eric Horency and April Horency; five great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild. Deceased are three brothers, John, Frank and Thomas Horency; and a sister, Anna Pender. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, Washington, with the Rev. John Mack as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Church Cemetery, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Parking Lot Fund at Holy Trinity National Catholic Church.
